Strange yet true, too much intake of water COULD kill you! And this might not be new for those who love to browse the Internet; however, for "I just realize it" people, I'm going to explain a bit of why too much water is dangerous for you.
Water
First off, we know water is really important, acting as a universal solvent (which means they help us by carrying minerals which are unused from our body out). However, there's a downside of drinking too much of this universal solvent. You see, some minerals like salt easily dissolves in water, and as the water is excreted via urine, these minerals will also go along with it. These salt loss via urine can be controlled by our kidney, which helps us by reabsorbing the minerals back before forming the urine we always urinate, but for some who over-hydrates, the water intake is so much that the kidney is not fast enough to reabsorb anything that passes through it; hence, resulting in loss of salt. Now what role does salt play as? As you know, they are needed for your conducting electric impulses in your brain, as they can release ions which are helpful in electric conducting. Now, with so much of salt loss from the excessive water you drank, the salt ions (Na+ is the one used in brain conduction) are lost alongside with the urine and are replaced with water instead (reason why it is replaced with water is because water gets absorbed by cells, and this leads the brain cells to absorb water which replaces the ions). And as the cells absorb more and more water, the brain cells starts to swell, causing not only headaches, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting, but might also lead to respiratory arrest and other body functions to malfunction if too much water intake continues. Hence, resulting in hyponatremia, which in other words, water intoxication or water poisoning. Crazy as it sounds, there are actually deaths caused by this problem, and the most suggested solution to prevent this from happening to you is to "drink water when thirsty". Hopefully by reading this, you guys can change your lifestyle a bit and also to remember "Too much of something good is bad for you".
